Magnet History

Magnet students have received scholarships to pursue summer academic enrichment opportunities at well-known universities and colleges. Our students have also been granted summer research internships with NASA and the University of Pittsburgh. Many of our Magnet program graduates have been awarded substantial scholarships to attend the college or university of their choice.

Program Requirements
Overall Course Requirements:
Honors English, Math, and Science courses
One semester of a School-to-Career component
Career Pathway electives with a focus on Math or Science.

Minimum Grade Requirements:

No less than 85% in any Math, Science, or English Course
No less than 85% GPA.

Test Requirements:

Students begin taking the PSAT exam annually in 9th grade
Students begin taking the SAT exam in 11th grade. Students in the 11th and 12th grades are required to take the SAT I. Students in the 12th grade are strongly encouraged to take the SAT II in the Math, Science, and English areas.

Grounds For Removal:

A failing grade in any subject
Suspension
Students skipping class will be removed from the program. Excessive excused absences may account for a students need to repeat a class. (Max 20 days)
