Our History

Still the only Magnet program in the Virgin Islands, St. Croix Educational Complex's Mathematics/Science Magnet Program was begun with the opening of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School in 1995. The dream was to offer a course of study that would increase the number of Virgin Islands public school students entering the fields of engineering, medicine, and environmental science. Since this college prep program is designed for gifted students with special interest and potential in mathematics and science who are able to set high standards and then set out to achieve them, it has included rigorous courses such as marine biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology and genetics, pre-calculus, and Advanced Placement English, Calculus, Biology, History and Spanish.

By following precise science and mathematics career pathways, these students chart their career choices through their elective selections. Participation in the Magnet program enables students special opportunities and course work that emphasizes science, mathematics, writing, and research skills that will allow them to succeed at the university level.
