Mathematics/Science Magnet Program

The Mathematics/Science Magnet Program is a four-year college preparatory honors program with an emphasis on science and math that provides preparation for success in college studies towards math and science professions. The charter classes (1995) consisted primarily of 200 freshmen and sophomores who were selected because they demonstrated aptitude and interest in math and science. Over the last two years, the program was grown to include juniors and seniors thereby having full complement of ninth through twelfth grade students. The students in the program will receive an excellent foundation during years 1 and 2 of the program.

A Vision for the New Millennium

Magnet students receive active support towards achieving post-secondary success. The program develops the student's self-esteem by encouraging a thirst for knowledge, applauding victory over challenges, and recognizing student success. A 4-year honors curriculum emphasizing math and science is conducted in an environment where meaningful discussion of educational issues can take place and creativity can flourish.
Opportunities for summer enrichment course work at well-known universities and colleges are provided and students are assisted in pursuing them. A school-to-career component allows the student to experience the work atmosphere of professional careers of interest to them.
