COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This three-year program provides training in boat building and repair. Instruction introduces students to careers in the marine industry, materials and safety procedures, use and maintenance of tools, different kinds of wood used in boat building, measurements and layout, estimate of materials and costs, interpretation of plans and sketches basic epoxy chemistry, surface preparation, bonding, filleting, laminating, scarfing, vacuum bagging, lofting, assembly and finishing, glazing painting techniques. The course emphasizes employability skills training and business practices for the entrepreneur. A related vocational student organization is an integral part of this program. Enrollment into the program may begin either at ninth or tenth grade level, as well as adult-day students.
