Foster Grandparents and Volunteers Program

These programs are designed to bring our community into the school. Both programs start with a basic training which includes orientation of the educational facilities and introduction of school personnel.

Our volunteers work on a one to one basis with the students in a classroom. These students are usually identified by the classroom teacher as needing individualized attention. Our foster grandparents work basically in primary grades. Custodial workers, monitors, child nutrition workers, groundskeepers and crossing guards volunteer in any area that we have need for additional personnel. Presently we have three foster grandparents working along with our students and faculty.

Accelerated class

The overall goal of the accelerated program is to improve students' performance in each curricular area, through tasks and activities not provided regularly and consistently in their regular classrooms. Students will write better, speak better, think better, have more knowledge and skills, and be more effective learners as a result of their participation in the program.

It is difficult to generalize about students because their characteristics and needs are so personal and unique. However, as a group they comprehend complex ideas quickly, learn more rapidly and in greater depth than their peers, and may exhibit interest that differs from those of their peers.

The aim is to develop students' potential, not simply to provide a showcase for their present achievements. It should acquaint them with their own potential and motivate them to develop their potential.
